Two new family-friendly restaurants on Daniel Island are nearly complete and ready to serve.

Ristorante LIDI, a family-style Italian restaurant at 901 Island Park Drive, announced it will open March 4. It will focus on "authentic, affordable Italian cuisine," according to a written statement. The owner is also its chef, Jason Colon.

Also, The Islander, which is Holy City Hospitality's first venture off the Charleston peninsula, is nearing the end of its renovations of the former Queen Anne's Revenge restaurant at 160-B Fairchild St. The Islander, which has been upfitted with an event room and a spacious indoor-outdoor bar, is expected to open in the next few weeks, according to its Facebook page.

Holy City Hospitality also manages six downtown restaurants, including 39 Rue de Jean and Coast. Last week, Mayor Joe Riley helped it cut the ribbon to its recently opened Hutson Alley projects made up of Vincent Chicco's, Victor Social Club and Michael's on the Alley.


Alpha Dog Omega Cat, a locally owned boutique for pet owners, is closing because of increased competition from national retailers.

"The pet industry overall has become incredibly diluted," said owner Gail Yarborough.

"So many pet stores are opening, and competition from the big-box superstores, grocery stores and discount houses, along with catalog and Internet sales, all combine to diminish the value of the items we sell and the service we offer."

The pet retailer at 40 Archdale St. in downtown Charleston, behind Forever 21, will close March 31 after nearly 18 years in business. Clearance sales begin Monday.

In the zone

The first AutoZone in Mount Pleasant is under construction at 2029 U.S. Highway 17, just north of the Isle of Palms connector.

The 15,000-square-foot building includes 6,000 square feet of retail space and a 9,000-square-foot warehouse. The Memphis, Tenn.-based car parts retailer has about a dozen other locations throughout the Charleston region.

On deck

Workers recently broke ground on a new parking deck at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. The extra parking is intended to accom-modate the expanded Belk store, which is in the process of adding 30,000 square feet to its 82,000-square-foot store to convert into a "flagship" location. Officials working on the project have said that the parking deck could be completed by October, according to Christiane Farrell, Mount Pleasant's planning director.
