While many lined Coleman Boulevard to watch the Christmas parade in Mount Pleasant, one man is accused of roaming the parade area looking for unlocked cars, according to police.

Frederick Lorenzo Gathers, 30, of King Street in Mount Pleasant, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle on Sunday night.

At around 7 p.m., two hours into the parade, an officer spotted Gathers getting out of a car near Ellis Street, a press release stated. Gathers matched the description of a man reported to be checking car doors looking for unlocked cars near Ellis Street and Bellview Avenue, police said.

When spotted by the officer, Gathers ran off, police said. The officer chased Gathers, who was shortly later caught by SWAT members, officials said.

Police are looking for any one who may have had any items stolen from their vehicles that night. Police are asking those individuals to call the department at 843-884-4176.
