A bicyclist who was struck on Tuesday by a sports utility vehicle on Folly Beach died overnight from injuries sustained in the wreck, Charleston County sheriff’s deputies said.
Sheriff’s Maj. Jim Brady said that the bicyclist was riding on East 5th Street and did not stop for a stop sign at the East Cooper Avenue intersection about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The bicyclist rode into the path of a 2007 Hyundai SUV, Brady said. The driver was unable to avoid hitting the person, he said.
Brady said no charges are expected against the driver.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the bicyclist as 47-year-old Stanley Borkowski of Folly Beach. He died at Medical University Hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck, officials said.
