A missing Colleton County girl has been found in an abandoned house, deputies say.

Charleston County deputies this morning assisted the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office in the search for the missing 12-year-old girl.

The girl told deputies she did not want to go to school this morning. She was unharmed, and was turned over to her parents, Colleton County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ted Stanfield said.

The girl’s mother reported her missing about 6:15 a.m., a news release said. The woman told deputies she thought her daughter was waiting for the school bus when the bus driver reported that the child was not at the stop, but her books were, the release said.

Deputies were unable to immediately locate the girl so they launched a more extensive search. An Amber Alert was not issued because there was no information involving a kidnapping or suspect vehicle, the release said.
