Several witnesses gave conflicting stories after two men were shot on Wire Road Tuesday night.

Dorchester County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a home on Wire Road about 11:30 p.m. and found Jeremy Britt, 19, lying on his side with gunshot wounds to his upper, left torso and foot, an incident report said.

A second man, Benjamin Grant, 66, was hit in his buttocks during the shooting, the report said.

Grant drove away from the scene after the shooting, according to the report. Deputies later found him at a nearby home.

Both men were treated at Medical University Hospital, the report said.

Deputies are sorting through several conflicting witness statements regarding what led to the shooting, according to the report.

Britt told deputies that he did not know who shot him. He did not provide any further details, the report said.

Britt’s cousin told deputies he was in his bedroom when he heard shots fired in the living room.

The cousin told deputies he went into the hallway, looked around the corner, and saw a man with a gun.

When deputies asked if he recognized the gunman, the cousin changed his story and said he did not see the man, the report said.

Instead, he told deputies he only heard voices arguing.

The cousin told deputies he ran to grab his uncle’s shotgun, but the gunman had already fled the scene in a black truck.

Grant told deputies the gunman demanded money before the shots were fired.

Another man who was in the living room with Britt when the shots were fired described the gunman as a black man wearing a gray stocking cap, dark shirt, and jeans with a black pistol at his side.

No charges have been filed. The shooting is still under investigation, sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison said.
