Kathryn Nash, school nurse for Belle Hall Elementary School won 2012-13 Mark Cobb Transformation Award for "infusing health awareness, education, activities and fun throughout the school," according to Principal Kevin Conklin.
"From Ms. Nash and this (wellness) committee, our school has been introduced to healthy food choice presentations in the cafeteria, blood drives, doctor lectures, Biggest Loser "competitions," and local farmers' visits ...," says Conklin.
He adds that more memorable initiatives included a staff walking club, securing complimentary pedometers for the entire staff and healthy smoothies at faculty meetings.
"Ms. Nash also spearheaded the creation of Fun Fit Club for fourth and fifth graders that meets once a week after school each spring semester that promotes healthy decisions and engages the students in a variety of fun exercise experiences ....
"Clearly, Nurse Nash has transformed health awareness and participation here at Belle Hall Elementary and she continues to come up with new ideas."
